YASA, a pioneer in electric drive technology, has set a new unofficial power density world record with its axial flux prototype motor.
Earlier testing of a 13.1kg version achieved 550kW (738bhp), resulting in a 42kW/kg power density. However, a lighter 12.7kg version has exceeded this, reaching a 750kW (>1000bhp) short-term peak rating and setting a new record of 59kW/kg – a 40% increase.
The motor is estimated to have a continuous power of 350kW-400kW (469bhp-536bhp), validating YASA's axial flux technology.
Designed and developed at YASA’s Oxford Innovation Centre, the breakthrough represents another major validation of the company’s technology.
