Community History Event: "Local Lore and History of Straits Pond—Cohasset and Hull"
On November 15, 2025, the Straits Pond Watershed Association will host a community event to celebrate the rich history of Straits Pond and its surrounding area.
The free event will take place from 1-4 p.m. at the Panagia Greek Orthodox Church, located at 811 Jerusalem Road in Cohasset, on the shores of Straits Pond.
The church has historical significance, as it was built by Albert Pope to memorialize his son. Albert Pope was the founder of Columbia Bicycles and a pioneer in the automobile industry.
- He built Lyndermere, a 50-acre estate spanning from a hilltop to the shores of Straits Pond.
- Straits Pond was also home to the Black Rock House, one of New England's grand hotels in the Gilded Age.
