UNISON: Employers Must Monitor Workloads to Protect Staff Wellbeing
Commenting on the publication of Sir Charlie Mayfield's Keep Britain Working review, UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea stated:
It's in all our interests that workers keep well and are supported back to their jobs should they fall ill or get injured. Prevention is key to stopping staff being signed off in the first place.
McAnea emphasized the importance of prevention and support, highlighting that:
- managers should provide the right help early on
- robust standards must be introduced to ensure suitable and timely adjustments to workplaces for people with disabilities
- raising statutory sick pay would prevent staff from working while poorly, risking their health and that of their colleagues
