At the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Hellenic Championship in Athens, Lorenzo Musetti took another step toward qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals, defeating Alexandre Muller 6-2, 6-4 to reach the semifinals.
The Italian is now just two wins away from earning a debut spot at the prestigious season-ending tournament in his home country. To clinch qualification, he must lift the trophy at this ATP 250 event.
Currently, Felix Auger-Aliassime holds the last qualifying position in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin. The player who secures the spot will join Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and Ben Shelton in the Bjorn Borg Group following the official draw on Thursday.
Despite the distance from Turin, Musetti remained composed and focused on his match. The 23-year-old showcased precision shot-making, moving Muller across the court before closing out the match on serve after 82 minutes.
Reaching his seventh semifinal of the season, Musetti will next face American player Sebastian Korda. Korda advanced by beating Miomir Kecmanovic 6-3, 6-2, marking his third semifinal at tour level this season. He had also overcome Kecmanovic earlier in Adelaide and now leads their Lexus ATP Head2Head series 3-1.
“The stakes could hardly be higher,” the ATP report noted, emphasizing the intensity of Musetti’s pursuit of his first Finals appearance.
Musetti’s Athens victory keeps his Nitto ATP Finals dream alive, setting up a crucial semifinal against Korda that could define his 2025 season.
