Toronto police charged an 18-year-old woman in connection with a suspected hate-motivated assault that occurred on a TTC subway train last month. The incident involved the victim being sprayed with a noxious substance and subjected to homophobic slurs.
Officers responded to a call at Bloor-Yonge station around 1:16 a.m. on October 21. According to investigators, the accused approached the victim inside a subway car, uttered homophobic slurs, and sprayed a harmful substance.
"The victim sustained minor injuries, while the accused fled the scene."
Police stated that the victim and the accused were unknown to each other.
Following an investigation, Valentina Ponte Diaz, 18, of Toronto, was arrested on Wednesday. She faces charges including assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous, and administering a noxious thing with intent.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday. Authorities are treating the case as a suspected hate-motivated offence.
