England have confirmed their 19-man squad for the third and final Ashes Test against Australia at Headingley this Saturday. The lineup includes two changes from the side that lost 14–4 in the second Test.
Head coach Shaun Wane announced the updated squad for the sold-out clash in Leeds. Following defeats of 26–6 and 14–4 in the first two Tests at Wembley and Hill Dickinson Stadium, England trail 2–0 in the series and can no longer win overall. They will, however, look to restore pride by avoiding a 3–0 sweep on home soil.
Despite earlier suggestions from head coach Kevin Walters that they might rest key players, Australia have decided to field their strongest team for the third and final Test. The Kangaroos are aiming to complete a clean sweep in the series.
Wane’s alterations see Hull KR winger Joe Burgess and Leeds Rhinos centre Harry Newman join the 19-man squad. These two replace winger Dom Young and centre Jake Wardle from the previous lineup announced ahead of the second Test in Merseyside.
“If both Burgess and Newman take to the pitch, every member of England’s 24-man autumn squad will have featured in at least one of the three Tests.”
Saturday’s contest at Headingley represents England’s final opportunity to end the series on a positive note before the off-season begins.
