Carrie Bickmore Named 2026 Australian of the Year for Victoria

Broadcaster and devoted cancer fundraiser Carrie Bickmore OAM has been announced as the 2026 Australian of the Year for Victoria. The award was presented during a ceremony in Melbourne on November 6.

Fighting Brain Cancer

Since 2015, Bickmore has helped raise over $27 million to support brain cancer research. In 2021, she founded The Brain Cancer Centre to unite leading scientists in the search for a cure.

"Brain cancer claims the lives of more Australian children than any other disease and affects more people under 40 than any other type of cancer."

The Brain Cancer Centre currently funds pioneering clinical trials, among the first of their kind worldwide. Bickmore’s advocacy is deeply personal—her husband, Greg, died of brain cancer in 2010.
