Kerry Stokes, who dedicated his life to building a television network and newspaper publisher, recently chaired his final Seven West Media annual general meeting (AGM). Despite stepping down, he assured that he still has much to offer.
Final AGM and Retirement Announcement
On Thursday, Stokes presided over his last Seven West Media AGM, which lasted 48 minutes. At 85 years old, he plans to leave the board when Seven West Media merges with Southern Cross Media Group early next year. When asked about his retirement, he gave an uncommon answer for a media titan:
“Because I would be arrogant if I didn’t. For me to say there wasn’t anyone better than I am is arrogant.”
He expressed confidence in the incoming chairman, eager for fresh leadership.
“I am convinced the new incoming chairman will do a great job and bring new energy and I’m excited about that.”
Future Leadership and Company Structure
- The West Australian will be replaced by Heith Mackay-Cruise, a seasoned media and technology director.
- The merged company will unite Seven Network, The West Australian, and The Nightly with the Triple M and Hit radio networks.
- Stokes will remain involved as an adviser and a 20 percent owner but pledged not to interfere with decisions.
“I don’t intend to be the interfering ex, nothing worse. I’m cheering from the side now.”
