As AI-driven development expands, GitHub introduces advanced tools to simplify cost management and improve workflow efficiency. The update includes two new premium request SKUs for GitHub Copilot coding agent and GitHub Spark, along with bundled budget options for transparent, predictable spending.
GitHub Copilot coding agent and GitHub Spark now use their own premium request SKUs. The former Copilot Premium Request SKU will continue to monitor usage across all other tools that rely on premium requests.
Users can select between precise cost control and simplified management, adapting their budget policies as needed.
“Whether you prefer granular control or streamlined management, we’ve got you covered.”
Further guidance is available on setting up customized budgets.
Enterprise and Team plans gain new flexibility through premium request overage policies. Administrators can grant or restrict overages per tool individually—for instance, allowing them for the coding agent but not Spark. Adjustments can be made quickly within Copilot policy settings.
Existing budgets for premium requests automatically transition to the new bundled budgeting system, ensuring previously established cost protections remain active and unaffected.
This update from GitHub enhances clarity, control, and continuity for managing AI-related costs, giving teams smarter financial oversight of Copilot and Spark tools.
