Production company Trailer Park Boys Inc. issued a statement to CBC acknowledging the allegation involving Mike Smith and confirming he has temporarily left his position as managing director.

According to documents from Nova Scotia provincial court obtained by media, Mike Smith was charged on October 2 with sexual assault related to an incident allegedly occurring on December 30, 2017, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. This information was reported by Variety, citing the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

"We recognise how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved," the statement read. "Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case."

Smith is best known for his role on the comedy series Trailer Park Boys, where he starred alongside John Paul Tremblay and Robb Wells. The show first aired in 2001 on the Canadian network Showcase and was later acquired by Netflix in 2014.
