California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed Senate Bill 283 into law, strengthening safety standards for energy storage facilities.
The bill, authored by state Sen. John Laird (D-Santa Cruz), was sponsored by the California Professional Firefighters and the California State Association of Electrical Workers.
"California must prioritize safety at every step when expanding battery storage to meet its clean energy goals," said Sen. Laird.
Sen. Laird thanked Governor Newsom for signing the bill, which protects first responders, local communities, and the integrity of the renewable energy transition.
