Dollar General stocker David Williams witnessed a violent incident at his workplace in 2019, where two co-workers struggled to subdue a would-be shoplifter with a knife.
I said, ‘No offense, but I only get paid one time, and that is to be a stocker,’”
Williams, who makes $11.50 an hour, expressed his concerns about not being able to make rent some months and not being willing to put his life on the line for his job.
In 2022, Williams joined Step Up Louisiana, an organization that seemed like his best chance to improve his working conditions.
