Neal Schon Breaks Down Journey's Farewell Tour: 'It Doesn't Mean the Rest of Us Are Going to Stop'

Neal Schon Discusses Journey's Farewell Tour and Future Plans

Neal Schon, founder and guitarist of Journey, shares his thoughts on the band's farewell tour, his life post-tour, and hints at a memoir and a possible band biopic. Despite numerous lineup changes over five decades, Schon has been the only constant member since he formed the band in 1973 after leaving Santana.

Journey's Enduring Legacy

Schon has led Journey through many phases: the departure of original singer Gregg Rolie, the band's peak in the 1980s with Steve Perry, challenging times in the early 2000s without Perry, and a revival nearly 20 years ago fueled by cultural moments like The Sopranos, Glee, the San Francisco Giants, and the current vocalist Arnel Pineda.

The Final Frontier Farewell Tour

The farewell tour, named Final Frontier, begins in February in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and will conclude sometime in the following year. While keyboardist Jonathan Cain plans to retire after the tour, Schon intends to continue his journey with the band’s spirit.

“I carry the Journey torch wherever I go and that sentiment and spirit will always remain,” Schon said. “While this marks a farewell to one powerful chapter of the Journey we’ve shared, I want everyone to know – I’m not done."
Author’s Summary
