Stadium project a 'once in a lifetime opportunity'

Stadium Project: A Catalyst for Regeneration

Manchester United's chief operating officer, Collette Roche, has discussed the club's vision for a new stadium at Old Trafford, describing it as a "once in a lifetime opportunity" for regeneration.

It's become a regional project and probably will be one of the biggest in Europe. As such, it's bigger than us at Manchester United.

A study by Oxford Economics found that the project could add £7.3bn annually to the UK economy, create 92,000 jobs, and lead to 17,000 new homes and 1.8m additional visitors each year.

The club is seeking government support for infrastructure and regeneration, rather than the stadium build itself, as

our ask of the government is that they support, not the stadium build, but support the infrastructure and the regeneration of the area.

Author's summary: Manchester United's stadium project is a massive opportunity for regional regeneration.
