Albany County Jail will soon add 16 dog kennels as part of a partnership with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society to address overcrowding at the animal shelter.
The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, with 79 kennels, consistently operates beyond capacity, according to CEO and President Ashley Bouck, who notes,
“Between stray dogs, between cruelty cases, there’s just not enough space.”
This project, initiated by Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple, aims to alleviate the issue. Sheriff Apple developed the idea after creating the Sheriff’s Homeless Improvement Program, which provides housing for homeless individuals at the jail.
