The Philadelphia Phillies are preparing for an active offseason with important decisions ahead regarding players like Kyle Schwarber, JT Realmuto, Harrison Bader, and Ranger Suarez. Alongside these moves, the team is strengthening its roster through free agency.
President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski has already made significant roster adjustments, including picking up Jose Alvarado's $9.5 million option. Most recently, the Phillies agreed on a deal with outfielder Bryan De La Cruz.
"According to my sources, Dominican Bryan De La Cruz has reached an agreement with the Philadelphia Phillies. He signed a one-year minor league contract and received an invitation to spring training." — MLB insider Mike Rodriguez
De La Cruz, who will turn 29 at the start of the 2026 regular season, is joining the Phillies on a minor league deal with a spring training invite.
Over his five-year Major League career, De La Cruz has been a mixed performer. During his time with the Miami Marlins in 2021 and 2022, he posted a respectable .269 batting average and a .748 OPS across 173 games, earning a 1.6 bWAR.
However, his performance declined in the following three seasons, hitting .243 with a .676 OPS and a -2.4 bWAR in 318 games.
The Phillies have added a promising but inconsistent outfield option in Bryan De La Cruz as they continue shaping their roster for a competitive 2026 season.
