Power Restored to Moss Park Residents After Nearly 29 Hours
Nearly 600 customers in the Moss Park area regained power after an outage that began at 8:11 a.m. Wednesday. Toronto Hydro confirmed the restoration was completed by 1 p.m. Thursday.

Affected Area and Customer Impact
The outage impacted the area stretching from the intersection of Queen Street E. and Jarvis Street to Parliament Street and Front Street E. Initially, more than 1,000 customers lost power, though the affected number decreased to around 600 as repairs progressed.
Counting Customers by Meters
Toronto Hydro counts affected customers by meters, not individuals, which can underestimate how many residents are impacted. In some cases, entire buildings or condos are served by a single bulk meter.
“In some cases, condos and buildings are fed by a single bulk meter. Because of this, our outage map reflects one meter as one customer, even though many residents may be impacted.”
Cause of the Outage and Repair Details
The outage resulted from a suspected third-party dig-in at an active construction site unrelated to Toronto Hydro, which damaged the utility’s infrastructure.
Repair crews had to excavate approximately 14 feet underground to reach and fix the damaged area.
“The work that caused the dig-in is unrelated to Toronto Hydro but resulted in damage to our infrastructure. Repairing this damage required our crews to excavate 14 feet underground in order to access the impacted area.”
Estimated Restoration Timeline
On Wednesday morning, the estimated time for power restoration was set for 8:30 p.m., but the crews worked carefully through complex repairs, extending the outage into Thursday afternoon.
