Carrie Bickmore Named 2026 Australian of the Year for Victoria

Broadcaster and cancer fundraiser Carrie Bickmore OAM received the 2026 Australian of the Year award for Victoria at a ceremony in Melbourne on November 6. Since 2015, Bickmore has raised over $27 million to support brain cancer research.

The Brain Cancer Centre Initiative

In 2021, Bickmore founded The Brain Cancer Centre, uniting leading researchers nationwide to develop new treatments. The centre is conducting pioneering clinical trials for brain cancer patients, which are the first of their kind globally.

Impact of Brain Cancer

Brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among Australians under 40 and kills more children than any other disease. Bickmore’s late husband, Greg, succumbed to the illness in 2010.

Elderly homeless advocate Bryan Lipmann AM was recognized as the 2026 Senior Australian of the Year for Victoria. He is the founder of Wintringham, an organization providing safe housing and care services for elderly, poor, and homeless individuals.

Young Australian of the Year: Abraham Kuol

Abraham Kuol was honored as the 2026 Young Australian of the Year for Victoria.
