Lakers legend Robert Horry offered some sharp criticism of Luka Doncic following the Lakers’ narrow 118-116 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.
Doncic scored 35 points and distributed 13 assists but struggled with his shooting accuracy. He attempted 27 shots, making only nine, including four from beyond the arc. In the third quarter, he went just 1-for-9 from the floor as the Lakers were outscored 37-28 and the Spurs built a 12-point lead. The Lakers managed to trim the deficit to six after Marcus Smart, Doncic, and Jaxson Hayes each hit two free throws.
During that difficult stretch, Rui Hachimura, who had made four of five shots earlier, did not attempt any. Doncic played nearly the entire quarter, running most of the offense himself. In the final period, he shifted focus, sharing the ball more and creating opportunities for teammates—getting Hachimura four attempts, including a crucial three-pointer with 5:15 remaining to narrow the gap to two points.
With 2:31 left on the clock, Doncic sank perhaps the game’s most significant shot, giving the Lakers a 113-112 lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Despite his shooting woes and four turnovers, Doncic’s effort on defense stood out in the matchup against Defensive Player of the Year Victor Wembanyama.
"Luka Doncic didn’t shoot well for most of the night, but he was nearly flawless defensively, finishing with five steals and two blocks."
His two-way performance ultimately helped the Lakers secure the win and drew mixed reactions from fans and analysts alike.
Despite an off shooting night, Luka Doncic turned in an elite defensive outing and clutch playmaking that led the Lakers past the Spurs, though his style drew criticism from Robert Horry.
