A foggy Friday morning in Calgary has transitioned into a snowy one, although experts say the snow isn’t expected to stay for long. The change began around 8:30 a.m. in the downtown core, as flakes moved south from the northern parts of the city.
The morning started with thick fog and a visibility warning from Environment and Climate Change Canada, which also mentioned the potential for rain, snow, or freezing rain. By mid-morning, that fog had transformed into light snowfall.
“Precipitation was in the forecast for the morning hours, but our temperature stayed just cool enough to keep most of that mix as snow. Once it’s gone, it’s pretty much gone, and as we enter the 9 o’clock hour, we can expect most of that to fully back away,” explained 660 NewsRadio meteorologist Kevin Stanfield.
Stanfield added that the day’s high would reach about 3°C, causing any light snow accumulation to melt quickly once temperatures rose.
Drivers are urged to be cautious as roads may remain slippery during the transition from fog to snowfall. For continuous updates on traffic and weather, residents can follow 660 NewsRadio or CityNews 24/7.
