How an NFL player helped Dusty Rhodes create MVP character

Creation of the MVP Character

Conrad Thompson of AdFreeShows.com spoke to former WWE creative team member Andrew Goldstein for The Insiders podcast, revealing how Dusty Rhodes came up with the idea for the MVP gimmick in WWE, inspired by an NFL star.

According to Goldstein, Rhodes was inspired by NFL star Terrell Owens, which led to the creation of the MVP character, featuring a full body suit and sports-styled presentation.

“You could just see the wheel spinning, I mean, the best example of that is MVP”

Goldstein discussed how Rhodes would come up with gimmicks and characters for stars in developmental at the time, and how MVP's character evolved from a rudimentary version to the final product.

MVP, a former US Champion and current AEW star, was in developmental at the time, and his character was influenced by the Eagles' Terrell Owens.
