A married couple claimed trial at the Sessions Court in Klang on Friday, October 24, to a charge of trafficking an Indonesian woman.
The duo was jointly accused of trafficking a 47-year-old domestic worker named Seri for the purpose of forced labour exploitation, resulting in her suffering serious injuries.
The charge carries a penalty of life imprisonment, or a jail term of not less than five years, and whipping upon conviction.
The alleged offence was committed at a house in Seri Kembangan on October 19.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Ayuni Jamri proposed that the couple not be granted bail, but suggested RM20,000 each with one surety if the court decides to grant bail.
Additional conditions were proposed,! including surrendering their passports to the court and being prohibited from approaching or harassing prosecution witnesses.
