4-Alarm Fire in North Baltimore Contained, SKY 11 Reports

Firefighters have evacuated homes amid heavy flames and thick smoke from a large warehouse fire in North Baltimore, according to SKY 11. The massive fire in Remington was declared contained after a four-alarm response.

Incident Details

Baltimore City firefighters responded Friday afternoon to a commercial building on 23rd Street, east of the Jones Falls Expressway. City fire, emergency, and police officials were on scene.

Firefighters evacuated the burning structure and neighboring residences while conducting defensive operations to control the blaze. The fire grew quickly, prompting four alarm calls by 2 p.m.

Fire Chief’s Statement

"Firefighters from BCFD 100% saved the houses," Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace said. "Firefighters put themselves between the warehouse and the homes. These men and women absolutely risked their lives, got between this warehouse and those houses in an area I estimate to be about 50 feet. They were working around energized BGE lines, they were working through a very, very high volume of fire – zero visibility up 23rd Street."

Chief Wallace added the initial fire report came in around 1:18 p.m. It is believed the fire started outside the building and was pushed by wind.

Summary

The swift and courageous response by Baltimore firefighters prevented residential destruction, containing a dangerous four-alarm warehouse fire in the Remington neighborhood.
