School System Senior Tax Exemption and ESPLOST Referendums
The Coweta County School Board has two ballot measures to be decided by Coweta voters on November 4th.
- Renewal of the 1-cent Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for schools
- A referendum to increase senior citizen homestead tax exemption for school property taxes
A third measure, the “Floating Local Option Sales Tax” (FLOST) referendum, is a separate measure brought by Coweta County and local city governments, and is not a school system measure.
Georgia school systems cannot participate in the new FLOST by state law.
Both the school system’s ESPLOST and Senior Homestead Exemptions for school taxes have been in place for several years, and both are property tax relief measures.
